Assessment first

We start with an assessment to understand your child’s current maths level, identify any gaps in understanding across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, and see where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan tailored to their needs.

Personalised Learning Plans

Your child’s personalised learning plan is delivered weekly and can be completed at home on a tablet or computer. Each Monday, new 20-minute maths lessons are added based on your child’s progress, helping keep learning at the right level and supporting a consistent learning routine.

Proven Progress

As your child strengthens their foundations, you’ll see them build skills and confidence in maths, and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.

Expert Tutors Available

If your child needs extra support, our online maths tutors are there to explain concepts further and answer questions, so your child can continue with confidence.

Year 2 Maths: What’s Covered and How We Help

Year 2 maths covers a range of skills across the Australian Curriculum. The overview below shows some of the key areas your child works on during the year, and how Kinetic Education can support them. Every child starts from a different point, so we begin with an assessment and create a personalised learning plan based on their current level.

This means your child is always working through curriculum-aligned lessons, at a pace that suits them.

Area
What Year 2 Maths Covers
How Kinetic Helps
Number and place value
Reading and writing numbers, understanding tens and ones, building numbers to 99, and adding tens.
We find out what your child can already do and where they need more practice, then shape their weekly lessons to match.
Addition and subtraction
Adding to 20, making ten, adding three numbers and adding with tens and ones, then taking away and finding the difference using number lines and counters.
New strategies are introduced clearly, with worked examples and instant feedback so your child can practise with confidence.
Multiplication
The first steps into multiplication through skip counting in twos, fives and tens, doubles and arrays.
We build these new ideas up step by step, so your child understands what multiplication really means, not just how to get an answer.
Fractions and money
Recognising halves, quarters and eighths, sharing collections, an introduction to tenths, and recognising and ordering Australian coins.
Each idea is broken into clear, manageable steps, using familiar examples so it makes sense.
Shape, mass and space
Naming and sorting 2D and 3D shapes, comparing mass, exploring symmetry, and flipping, sliding and turning shapes.
Lessons reinforce these skills with clear explanations, examples and instant feedback.
Time, patterns and chance
Telling time to the hour and half hour on analog and digital clocks, using months, seasons and the calendar, continuing number patterns, and showing data and describing the chance of everyday events.
We help your child practise these skills in a way that builds confidence and strengthens their understanding.

Melanie

After years of struggling with maths, Melanie’s daughter boosted her grades and confidence in just a few months with Kinetic Education. She has made so much progress that her new teacher didn’t even realise she had struggled with maths in the past.

Louise

Louise’s daughters started the school year feeling anxious to go to class, worried they wouldn’t understand maths concepts. But in just 4 months, their confidence has grown, and they are now happy to go to maths classes at school. Not only this, but their school reports and grades have boosted, but most importantly their confidence has too!

Rosie

Rosie came to Kinetic Education looking for support for her two children, who both needed completely different support. Her daughter was really struggling with maths, and homework time was always stressful, while her son was one step ahead at school and starting to feel bored. With support from us, Rosie’s daughter is now able to work through new concepts confidently, and her son gets the challenges he needs to stay one step ahead.

Year 2 Maths Tutoring Starts with Identifying Your Child’s Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, their first step is completing our Maths Doctor assessment. This checks their maths skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, helping us understand how they are going with key areas such as place value, addition and subtraction, early multiplication, fractions, time and money.

The assessment takes up to 45 minutes and gives you a clear picture of their current skills, including where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan, so your child can work through the curriculum at the right pace for them.

Personalised learning

Every Monday, we update your child's learning plan with new maths activities for the week, selected based on their assessment results and progress. Your child's learning plan is structured around three learning stages: Revision and Catch-Up, Consolidation, and Extension.

Revision and Catch-Up

When your child first starts with Kinetic Education, their learning plan targets the knowledge gaps identified in their assessment. For Year 2 students, this may include revisiting number and place value, adding and taking away, early multiplication ideas, fractions, money, shapes, time or patterns.

Consolidation

Once their foundations are stronger, your child practises the skills being covered in Year 2 maths. This may include working with numbers up to 1000, adding and subtracting with different strategies, beginning multiplication, recognising simple fractions, exploring shapes, and using maths in everyday situations like money and time.

Extension

When your child is feeling confident with Year 2 maths, we give them the opportunity to move ahead while still working at a pace that suits them.

Real Maths Tutors for Year 2 Students

Year 2 builds on the early foundations of Year 1, as numbers grow and your child takes the first steps into multiplication and fractions. When your family joins Kinetic Education, you are matched with a tutor who helps your child get off to a strong start, while overseeing their personalised learning plan and keeping an eye on their progress each week. Each activity is designed to teach your child, give them instant feedback and help them build confidence as they move through the curriculum.

We also know that sometimes children need a little extra help or encouragement. That is where our maths tutors step in. If your child needs support with a Year 2 maths concept, their tutor can guide them using screen sharing and a digital whiteboard, helping them understand the task and feel more confident tackling the next one on their own.

Our tutors are also here for parents. You can speak with your tutor about your child's learning needs, progress and weekly reports, so you know how they are going and what they are working on next.

Tutor support includes:

  • Tutor support available up to 10 hours per week, at no extra charge
  • Screen sharing and digital whiteboard support to help explain concepts clearly
  • Guidance for parents on progress, learning needs and weekly reports

Rewards

We know that sometimes children don't understand why they need to do extra maths work at home, and they might need a bit of extra motivation. That's why every child enrolled with us gets to experience our unique rewards system.

Here's how it works: your child earns points after every maths activity, which they can save up and swap for real rewards like Smiggle, Myer, and WISH gift cards.

Give Your Child the Support They Need to Feel Confident in Maths

When children are finding maths hard, it can affect more than their schoolwork. It can shake their confidence, motivation and willingness to try.

At Kinetic Education, we begin with our Maths Doctor assessment, which identifies what your child already understands and where they may need extra support. From there, we create a personalised learning plan with tutor support to help your child build early number confidence, close learning gaps and feel more capable as they move through Year 2.

Will highly recommend Kinetic to parents who want their kids to excel in education

I was looking for at online tutoring for my son in Grade 2 to keep his interest on Maths and English in right direction. I found Kinetic Education classes very useful and he has also improved his overall skills. He started with Kinetic about 6 months ago, Currently he is above his grade level and is enjoying the tutorial , quiz and specially all the points that get added after each lesson. Kinetic educators are very proactive in communication and I am regularly informed on the overall progress.. Will highly recommend Kinetic to parents who want their kids to excel in education and most importantly want to design the homework schedule as per their work and weekly schedule. Thanks team!!

A great program that helped my son, who has autism, close his learning gaps.

A great program that helped my son, who has autism, close his learning gaps. He started at a grade 2 level and after 1 year on the program was at a grade 6 level. It also helped my daughter solidify her knowledge. They loved the incentives as well so it was great motivation for them to complete their lessons each week. The program was so flexible, as I was able to change the number of lessons from time to time if the kids were busy with other commitments. Highly recommend Kinetic Education.

The progress we have seen has been amazing!

We have been using kinetic education since 6 January 2026 and the progress we have seen has been amazing! From our son's English grade D last year to now- the teacher had told us that our boy's among top 10 in his class and giving me more advanced books to read! Our kids now have a good routine with their homework, most of the time, we don't even need to stay next to them for both English and maths. We also love how it's the same cost to have our little pre primary on together with our year 2 and absolutely enjoy reading the weekly report on their homework and progress. Thank you !

Year 2 Maths Tutoring FAQs

Is Year 2 a good time to start maths tutoring?

Yes. Year 2 is when new ideas like multiplication and fractions are introduced and numbers start to grow, so it is a great time to keep your child's foundations strong. Starting support now can help them feel confident with these new concepts and stay on track as the maths builds.

How does Year 2 maths tutoring work?

Each Monday, your child's learning plan is updated with new maths activities for the week. The lessons are designed to take around 15 to 20 minutes a day, short enough to fit around school and family life, but consistent enough to make a real difference over time. Your child works through their activities on a tablet or computer, at whatever time works best for your family. Each lesson includes clear explanations, examples and instant feedback, so your child isn't just practising, they're learning as they go. If they get stuck on something, they can contact their tutor for support after school Monday to Thursday. You'll also receive a weekly progress report so you can see exactly what they worked on and how they went.

What if I'm not sure what level my child is at?

That is exactly what our Maths Doctor assessment is designed to help with. It checks your child's skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, so we can see where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan matched to their level.

What if my child is ahead and ready for more?

Kinetic Education can support children who are ready for extension too. If your child is confident with their current work, their personalised learning plan can move them into more challenging activities so they can keep progressing.

What new maths will my child meet in Year 2?

Year 2 introduces some important steps. Your child takes the first steps into multiplication through skip counting, doubles and arrays, explores simple fractions like halves, quarters and eighths, works with numbers to 99, and uses maths in everyday contexts like money and telling the time. Their personalised learning plan introduces these at a pace that suits them.
