Assessment first

We start with an assessment to understand your child’s current maths level, identify any gaps in understanding across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, and see where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan tailored to their needs.

Personalised Learning Plans

Your child’s personalised learning plan is delivered weekly and can be completed at home on a tablet or computer. Each Monday, new 20-minute maths lessons are added based on your child’s progress, helping keep learning at the right level and supporting a consistent learning routine.

Proven Progress

As your child strengthens their foundations, you’ll see them build skills and confidence in maths, and keep moving forward at a pace that feels right for them.

Expert Tutors Available

If your child needs extra support, our online maths tutors are there to explain concepts further and answer questions, so your child can continue with confidence.

Year 9 Maths: What’s Covered and How We Help

Year 9 maths covers a range of skills across the Australian Curriculum. The overview below shows some of the key areas your child works on during the year, and how Kinetic Education can support them. Every child starts from a different point, so we begin with an assessment and create a personalised learning plan based on their current level.

This means your child is always working through curriculum-aligned lessons, at a pace that suits them.

Area
What Year 9 Maths Covers
How Kinetic Helps
Number and proportion
Directed numbers, scientific notation for large and small numbers, ratios, rates, scale drawings, and simple interest.
Your child can strengthen the number and proportion skills they need for more advanced Year 9 topics, with lessons matched to their current level.
Algebra and equations
Index laws, gathering like terms, expanding brackets and perfect squares, and solving multi-step equations including those with fractions and brackets.
Algebra is broken into clear steps, helping your child understand each process before moving into more complex equations and problem solving.
Coordinate geometry and graphs
Midpoint, distance and gradient, the gradient-intercept, point-gradient and two-point forms of a line, and the parabola.
Graphing and coordinate geometry are taught with clear explanations, worked examples and practice that helps your child build accuracy and confidence.
Measurement
Area and composite figures, and surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders.
Measurement concepts are reinforced through step-by-step lessons that help your child apply formulas carefully and understand which method to use.
Geometry and trigonometry
Congruence and similar triangles, Pythagoras’ theorem, and trigonometry with sine, cosine and tangent, including angles of elevation and depression.
Each concept is introduced in manageable steps, helping your child understand the rules, methods and reasoning behind Year 9 geometry and trigonometry.
Statistics and probability
Sampling, mean, median, mode and range, grouped frequency tables and histograms, and probability with Venn diagrams and tree diagrams.
Your child can practise interpreting data, reading diagrams and applying probability methods, with feedback that helps them improve accuracy over time.

Melanie

After years of struggling with maths, Melanie’s daughter boosted her grades and confidence in just a few months with Kinetic Education. She has made so much progress that her new teacher didn’t even realise she had struggled with maths in the past.

Louise

Louise’s daughters started the school year feeling anxious to go to class, worried they wouldn’t understand maths concepts. But in just 4 months, their confidence has grown, and they are now happy to go to maths classes at school. Not only this, but their school reports and grades have boosted, but most importantly their confidence has too!

Rosie

Rosie came to Kinetic Education looking for support for her two children, who both needed completely different support. Her daughter was really struggling with maths, and homework time was always stressful, while her son was one step ahead at school and starting to feel bored. With support from us, Rosie’s daughter is now able to work through new concepts confidently, and her son gets the challenges he needs to stay one step ahead.

Year 9 Maths Tutoring Starts with Identifying Your Child’s Level

When your child gets started with Kinetic Education, their first step is completing our Maths Doctor assessment. This checks their maths skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, helping us understand how they are going with key areas such as algebra and indices, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, measurement and geometry.

The assessment takes up to 45 minutes and gives you a clear picture of their current skills, including where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan, so your child can work through the curriculum at the right pace for them.

Personalised learning

Every Monday, we update your child's learning plan with new maths activities for the week, selected based on their assessment results and progress. Your child's learning plan is structured around three learning stages: Revision and Catch-Up, Consolidation, and Extension.

Revision and Catch-Up

When your child first starts with Kinetic Education, their learning plan targets the knowledge gaps identified in their assessment. For Year 9 students, this may include revisiting earlier number skills, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra basics, equation solving or graphing skills before moving into more complex high school maths.

Consolidation

Once their foundations are stronger, your child practises the skills being covered in Year 9 maths. This may include index laws, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, non-linear graphs, algebra, measurement, geometry and problem solving. When your child is feeling confident in Year 9 maths, we give them the opportunity to move ahead while still working at a pace that suits them.

Extension

When your child is feeling confident in Year 9 maths, we give them the opportunity to move ahead while still working at a pace that suits them.

Real Maths Tutors for Year 9 Students

Year 9 is the final NAPLAN year, and the maths now reaches into trigonometry, coordinate geometry, index laws and non-linear graphs. When your family joins Kinetic Education, you are matched with a tutor who helps your child get off to a strong start, while overseeing their personalised learning plan and keeping an eye on their progress each week. Each activity is designed to teach your child, give them instant feedback and help them build confidence as they move through the curriculum.

We also know that sometimes students need a little extra help or encouragement. That is where our maths tutors step in. If your child needs support with a Year 9 maths concept, their tutor can guide them using screen sharing and a digital whiteboard, helping them understand the task and feel more confident tackling the next one on their own.

Our tutors are also here for parents. You can speak with your tutor about your child's learning needs, progress and weekly reports, so you know how they are going and what they are working on next.

Tutor support includes:

  • Tutor support available up to 10 hours per week, at no extra charge
  • Screen sharing and digital whiteboard support to help explain concepts clearly
  • Guidance for parents on progress, learning needs and weekly reports

Rewards

We know that high school students often have busy schedules, and extra maths practice can feel hard to prioritise. Our rewards system helps give students an extra reason to stay consistent, complete their weekly personalised learning plan and keep building confidence over time.

After each maths activity, your child earns points that can be saved up and swapped for real rewards like Myer, WISH and Smiggle gift cards.

Supporting Your Child Through Year 9 NAPLAN

Year 9 is the final year students sit NAPLAN, and the numeracy questions draw on the full range of secondary maths skills. At Kinetic Education, we help students strengthen the maths skills they use across the curriculum, so they can approach NAPLAN with confidence.

With NAPLAN completed online, our digital learning environment helps students become more comfortable reading, working through and answering questions in a digital format. Their weekly lesson plan gives them regular practice with interactive activities, clear explanations and instant feedback, while still focusing on real maths understanding.

Skill-building first

We focus on the maths behind the questions, including number, algebra, measurement, geometry and statistics.

Support at the right level

Your child’s personalised learning plan is tailored to their needs and set at a level that suits them, with clear explanations, instant feedback and tutor support when they need it.

Online learning practice

As your child completes activities online, they become more familiar with reading, working through and answering questions in a digital format, while strengthening the skills they need for Year 9 maths.

Support beyond the test

The goal is stronger maths understanding, not just NAPLAN practice. Your child’s personalised learning plan helps them keep building skills throughout the year, at a pace that suits them.

Give Your Child the Support They Need to Feel Confident in Maths

When students are finding maths hard, it can affect more than their schoolwork. It can shake their confidence, motivation and willingness to try.

Kinetic Education helps students build confidence by starting at the level that is right for them. Through targeted assessment, personalised learning and tutor support, your child can strengthen key maths skills, close learning gaps and feel more capable as they move through Year 9 and towards their senior years.

To be able to complete the tasks in her own time showed maturity and growth.

My year 7 struggled with transitioning to math. We started using Kinetics in term 2. She showed gaps from grade 4. She loves this tutoring system. To be able to complete the tasks in her own time showed maturity and growth. Their correspondence is amazing. She is now up to year 7/8 and is feeling very confident. And the pricing is amazing. A++++ here

Not even a year into starting Kinetic and she has already caught up to her year level and learning so much.

We started the program with my daughter who is in year 7. When she first started she had gaps all the way back to grade 4 with her mathematics. Not even a year into starting Kinetic and she has already caught up to her year level and learning so much. The tutors are extremely friendly and accommodating when you need them and the staff also check in with phone calls to see how she’s enjoying and doing with the program. Definitely glad we joined Kinetic and can’t recommend them highly enough.

I am using it with all of my children and have found it to be a wonderful program for children who have just started primary school as well as those in high school.

We have been so happy with Kinetic Education. I am using it with all of my children and have found it to be a wonderful program for children who have just started primary school as well as those in high school. The tutors have been incredibly encouraging, providing clear explanations helping my children make sense of complex material. Kinetic Education tutors always check in to make sure we are satisfied and to provide feedback on how each of my children are progressing. I can reduce or increase the workload at anytime and the activities can be made more difficult or more easy to ensure they are at just the right level for each child. Just this morning my daughter who has just started high school said 'what we were learning in maths today I have already covered it in Kinetic Education so it all made sense and I was even able to help my friends'. The best feedback from someone who a year ago had very little confidence with maths and just felt it was a subject she was no good at.

I highly recommend it to other parents looking for quality academic support for their children.

Kinetic Education has been a fantastic study support resource for my daughter since Year 9, and it has continued to provide excellent assistance through yr 11. The structured yet flexible program ensures that students can work at their own pace while still covering all necessary content. The progress tracking and regular feedback have also been invaluable in keeping us informed about her improvements and areas that need more focus. Overall, Kinetic Education has been an excellent investment in my daughter's education, and I highly recommend it to other parents looking for quality academic support for their children.

Year 9 Maths Tutoring FAQs

Is Year 9 a good time to start maths tutoring?

Yes. Year 9 covers a lot, from index laws and coordinate geometry to trigonometry and the first non-linear graphs, and it is also a NAPLAN year. It is the year that sets up senior maths, so making sure your child is confident now can make a real difference to the pathways open to them later.

What does a typical week look like for a Year 9 student?

Each Monday, new maths activities are added to your child's learning plan for the week. They spend around 15 to 20 minutes a day working through them on a tablet or computer, at whatever time suits your family, around school, sport and everything else. Each lesson includes clear explanations, examples and instant feedback, so your child is learning as they go, not just practising. If they get stuck, they can reach their tutor for support after school Monday to Thursday, and you receive a weekly progress report showing what they worked on and how they went.

What if I'm not sure what level my child is at?

That is exactly what our Maths Doctor assessment is designed to help with. It checks your child's skills across multiple year levels of the Australian Curriculum, so we can see where they may need more practice and where they are ready to move ahead. From there, we create a personalised weekly learning plan matched to their level.

What if my child is ahead and ready for more?

Kinetic Education can support students who are ready for extension too. If your child is confident with their current work, their personalised learning plan can move them into more challenging activities so they can keep progressing.

Can it help with NAPLAN?

Yes. Kinetic Education helps students strengthen the maths skills they may use during NAPLAN, including number, algebra, measurement, geometry and statistics. We focus on building real maths understanding, while also helping students become more comfortable working through questions in a digital format.
